Continuing Professional Development ( CPD )

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. CPD or Continuing Professional Development was established in 1996 and is an independent accreditation service that is recognised. CPD is a term used to describe the learning activities that professionals engage in to develop and enhance their abilities.

Education and Training Levels 3, 4 and 5 (City & Guilds)

These qualifications are for those who work or desire to work as teachers or trainers in the further education and skills sector, including those who are not in a teaching role, or who have just started a teaching role. Candidates who have already achieved some Learning and Development units can carry this forward into the qualification.

Functional Skills Entry Level, Levels 1 and 2 City and Guilds Qualification

Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English enable learners to develop essential numeracy and literacy skills. Most importantly, Level 2 Functional Skills are equivalent to GCSEs. People who take the Level 2 qualification and pass it can use it to get into university, thereby enhancing their career prospects.

It is done as the holistic commitment of professionals towards the enhancement of personal skills and proficiency throughout their careers. Improving your skills and knowledge through CPD is the responsibility of every professional across all industries. 

These qualifications are for those who work or desire to work as teachers or trainers in the further education and skills sector, including those who are not in a teaching role, or who have just started a teaching role. Candidates who have already achieved some Learning and Development units can carry this forward into the qualification. The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has produced revised guidance for the qualifications in Education and Training available across all awarding organisations.

Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English enable learners to develop essential numeracy and literacy skills. Most importantly, Level 2 Functional Skills are equivalent to GCSEs. People who take the Level 2 qualification and pass it can use it to get into university, thereby enhancing their career prospects. 

Reading: Students are required to read various styles of text and answer short questions to prove that they can analyse texts, elaborate on their intended meaning and identify the language feature used.

Writing: Students are required to show their ability to write in a context which is given in the paper. This includes persuasive writing, a complaint letter and other types of writing.

Functional Skills (Maths)

Using numbers: Students perform calculations involving the following topics: the basics of whole numbers, decimals, negative numbers, fractions, and percentages. They will also learn how to convert between them.

Understanding measure, shape and space: This section will test students based on their problem-solving ability which covers a wide range of topics; such as 2D and 3D shapes, as well as using maps to surface area and interpret scale drawings. 

Handling data: This section will cover the display and interpretation of data in various formats: the fundamentals of the mode, mean, median and range; and basic probability graphs.
